being 1 hour behind makes every thing easier, everybody more easy going.

a ornery old man barely tolerates my questioning and exam but at the end says, "Valli, come here." Then gives me a large hug and a kiss that lands on my ear. 

the more we think we will change

the more we make the same mistakes.

perhaps what we should do is stop thinking of them as mistakes.

I miss my friends. its summer; it is a time to have friends drift over, hear the clunk of ice in glasses, set up almost spontaneous grill dinners.

instead I am thousands of miles away, immersed in the melancholy of gray days.
